Under the hood, off the hot path: how D1 scales to millions of databases (opens on the source site)
A deep dive into how D1 architected its control plane to scale and manage millions of databases, while keeping data plane query operations at the edge. We share guiding principles on how to build on the Developer Platform effectively.
NVIDIA, Microsoft Kick Off a New Beginning for Windows PCs With RTX Spark and AI Agents (opens on the source site)
Nvidia ·
At a Microsoft event in San Francisco on Wednesday, Jensen Huang and Satya Nadella outlined how NVIDIA and Microsoft are co-engineering hardware and software for AI agents to run on Windows PCs. NVIDIA was founded because of Windows, Huang said. Now AI agents are coming to Windows. “If you look at the entire journey of […]
My Coding Agents Moved Off My Laptop and Onto a Remote Server (opens on the source site)
A workflow is running, and I need to close my laptop. Maybe I’m at a meeting, the end of the day, somewhere without a connection. If the agent is running on the laptop, closing the lid ends the run. For a while, I planned around it: before I left, I made sure agents were wrapping […] The post My Coding Agents Moved Off My Laptop and Onto a Remote Server appeared first on Atomic Spin.

Grok 4.7 now available and 40% off on AI Gateway, fx, and eve (opens on the source site)
Vercel ·
Grok 4.7 from SpaceXAI is now available on AI Gateway and 40% off through September 27. The discount applies automatically when you call spacexai/grok-4.7. Grok 4.7 has a 500K token context window and supports low, medium, high, and xhigh reasoning levels, giving you control over the tradeoff between latency and depth. Use spacexai/grok-4.7 everywhere you call the model. The same ID works with the AI SDK, the OpenAI-compatible Chat Completions API, and coding agents connected to AI Gateway: To use Grok 4.7 in a coding agent, install the latest Vercel CLI and run setup: npm i -g vercel@latest…
There's no point at which turning your brain off will work (opens on the source site)
Dan Luu ·
In early 2025, I started seeing people turn off their brain as they use LLMs1. They would have an LLM take an action (summarize text, write some code, etc.), and just assume that it worked2. This generally didn't work in early 2025 and the result was often quite silly. As LLMs have gotten better, I've seen more of this. Sometimes, people will try to get the LLM to write some code for them and basically just assume that it works3. Sometimes there's a human in the loop and, if the thing doesn't work, they'll ask the LLM to figure out the problem and solve it. Niklas Gruhn calls some variants of…
GLM-5.3 is 50% off through DigitalOcean on AI Gateway (opens on the source site)
Vercel ·
GLM-5.3 is 50% off on AI Gateway through Tuesday, September 8, in partnership with DigitalOcean. Copy link to headingHow to use the model during the offer period Using the promo name (zai/glm-5.3-promo-50) gets the discounted rate. It routes only to DigitalOcean, with no fallback to another provider, and it stops serving when the offer ends. Using the standard name (i.e., zai/glm-5.3) with provider options to sort DigitalOcean as the preferred provider keeps working after September 8 and routes across every provider that serves the model, at their usual rates. Because the promo name goes away…
MiniMax H3 and H3 Max are 50% off on AI Gateway (opens on the source site)
Vercel ·
MiniMax H3 and H3 Max are 50% off on AI Gateway from August 30 through September 13, in partnership with MiniMax. The discount covers requests billed through AI Gateway, at every duration and in every aspect ratio the model supports. H3 generates 2K video from a text prompt, a starting image, a pair of first and last frames, or reference images, video, and audio. H3 Max trades resolution for speed: it renders faster at 480p and 768p, and it takes a text prompt or a starting image. The model IDs (minimax/minimax-h3 and minimax/minimax-h3-max) are unchanged, so requests you already send pick up…

Why Not Just Use Off-the-Shelf LLMs for Enterprise Intelligence? (opens on the source site)
Hardly a week goes by without a new foundation model, AI agent, or research assistant promising to transform the way businesses work. Models from Google, OpenAI, Deepseek, Mistral, et al. have made a certain type of artificial intelligence more accessible than ever, and for many tasks they are genuinely impressive. They can summarize documents, answer questions, write reports, generate ideas, and, all in all, help people work faster. Given this context, it's a fair question for customers and prospects to ask: If LLMs I have free access to are so good, why can’t they be used for enterprise…

Nobody Is Going to Give You the Day Off (opens on the source site)
New emerging technologies can save you time and make you more productive. They never come with any sort of guarantee of working fewer hours. Personally, I like to work, and I like having more productive days. I also value freedom, flexibility, and autonomy. Being more productive doesn't negate my freedom. Having flexibility doesn't directly impact productivity. I'm unsure why the advent of AI has led to so many people publicly demanding more time off because of the productivity gains. I love working in, with, around technology. I've been fortunate enough to skip the college experience and get…

Taking Money off the Table (opens on the source site)
Recently I had a long call with an old friend who was facing an age-old predicament that I’ve been seeing more and more these days: Lucked out, worked hard, employer is crushing it, and now she’s sitting on a large amount of paper money gains at her startup Company does a tender offer, either buying their stock back or allowing a third party to come in and buy shares Employees might be allowed to sell, say, 10% (or whatever) of their equity So here’s the question: do you sell, or do you roll the dice and risk it longer? I took a tender offer on my early GitHub shares, and it comes up a lot in…
Efficiency trades off against resiliency (opens on the source site)
What’s the “right” level of CPU utilization for a server? If you look at a monitoring dashboard from a well-designed and well-run service, what CPU utilization should we hope to see, averaged over a day or two? It’s a very general question, and it’s not clear it should have a single answer. That said, for a long time, I generally believed that higher is always better: we should aim for as close to 100% utilization as we can.
