Use Paicku to containerize and test any app with buildpacks and Node.js (opens on the source site)
Red Hat ·
Containerizing applications is an important step in modern software development. It helps with consistency, portability, and reliability across different environments. The Paicku project helps you streamline the process of containerization and testing so you can be sure that your application works as expected during development and once it's been released.Paicku is a command-line tool, as well as a Node.js library, that lets you containerize applications with Cloud Native Buildpacks. You can run Paicku from the command-line or from Node.js. The post Use Paicku to containerize and test any app…

Python callables: Any object that defines __call__ (opens on the source site)
What is a “callable” in Python? Typically, a function or class. But really, it’s anything with __call__ defined: The “callable” builtin basically returns True if it finds __call__. The post Python callables: Any object that defines __call__ appeared first on LernerPython.
Personalize your product's text-to-speech voice for any language: Fine-tuning with Kubeflow Trainer on Red Hat OpenShift AI (opens on the source site)
Red Hat ·
Can't Read, Won't Buy. That is the title CSA Research gave its survey of 8,709 consumers across 29 countries, and the numbers justify it: 76% prefer to buy in their own language, and 40% will never buy in another. The same rule governs what your product says out loud. Compute that takes any shape (opens on the source site)
Vercel ·
Iteration velocity is now set by how quickly you can provision the computer your app or agent needs. Workloads differ in how long they run, how much memory they take, and how much of the environment they control. That previously meant a different compute primitive for each job, so product iterations required provisioning infrastructure, not just working on a feature. We built Vercel so that none of this has to be your problem. The compute layer is a single system with a simple job. Take any workload, assemble the machine it needs, swap configuration on the fly, and absorb burst capacity in…

engineering:Coming soon to the mobile apps: Inbox tab in Activity Ever wondered where to find your blog’s received asks and submissions on the mobile app? They’re in settings, which takes a lot of taps to get to, especially if you have multiple blogs. We heard some feedback on our recent update to settings on Android that you wanted easier access to your Inbox. So, we’re working on moving the Inbox to your Activity screen. This was something we worked on during Hack Days in March, so while we put the finishing touches on it, tell us what you think of this change! This is now rolling out on…
Amazon DynamoDB now supports real-time vector search at any scale (opens on the source site)
AWS ·
DynamoDB now supports native vector search with single-digit millisecond latency at 99%+ recall. It is designed for any scale, even trillions of vectors and requires zero infrastructure management.
TypeScript strictness is non-monotonic: strict-null-checks and no-implicit-any interact (opens on the source site)
The TypeScript compiler options strictNullChecks and noImplicitAny interact in a strange way: enabling just strictNullChecks leads to type errors that disappear after enabling noImplicitAny too, meaning getting stricter has fewer errors! This is a low-consequence curiosity, but I did trip over it in the real world, while updating some modules at work to be stricter. The context TypeScript is a powerful tool for taming a JavaScript codebase, but getting the most assurance requires using it in “strict” mode. Adopting TypeScript in an existing JavaScript codebase can be done incrementally by…
How to Fix Any Bug (opens on the source site)
I’ve been vibecoding a little app, and a few days ago I ran into a bug. The bug went something like this. Imagine a route in a webapp. That route shows a sequence of steps—essentially, cards. Each card has a button that scrolls down to the next card. Everything works great. However, as soon as I tried to also call the server from that button, scrolling would no longer work. It would jitter and break. So, adding a remote call somehow broke scrolling. I wasn’t sure what’s causing the bug. Clearly, the newly added remote server call (which I was doing via React Router actions) was somehow…
Use any Python AI agent framework with free GitHub Models (opens on the source site)
I ❤️ when companies offer free tiers for developer services, since it gives everyone a way to learn new technologies without breaking the bank. Free tiers are especially important for students and people between jobs, where the desire to learn is high but the available cash is low. That's why I'm such a fan of GitHub Models: free, high-quality generative AI models available to anyone with a GitHub account. The available models include the latest OpenAI LLMs (like o3-mini), LLMs from the research community (like Phi and Llama), LLMs from other popular providers (like Mistral and Jamba),…

How good can you be at Codenames without knowing any words? (opens on the source site)
Dan Luu ·
About eight years ago, I was playing a game of Codenames where the game state was such that our team would almost certainly lose if we didn't correctly guess all of our remaining words on our turn. From the given clue, we were unable to do this. Although the game is meant to be a word guessing game based on word clues, a teammate suggested that, based on the physical layout of the words that had been selected, most of the possibilities we were considering would result in patterns that were "too weird" and that we should pick the final word based on the location. This worked and we won. [Click…

Updating to .NET 8, updating to IHostBuilder, and running Playwright Tests within NUnit headless or headed on any OS (opens on the source site)
I've been doing not just Unit Testing for my sites but full on Integration Testing and Browser Automation Testing as early as 2007 with Selenium. Lately, however, I've been using the faster and generally more compatible Playwright. It has one API and can test on Windows, Linux, Mac, locally, in a container (headless), in my CI/CD pipeline, on Azure DevOps, or in GitHub Actions. For me, it's that last moment of truth to make sure that the site runs completely from end to end. I can write those Playwright tests in something like TypeScript, and I could launch them with node, but I like running…
